Fall Days Make Poetry Seem Natural

September

Helen Hunt Jackson

The goldenrod is yellow;

The corn is turning brown;

The trees in apple orchards

With fruit are bending down.

The gentian’s bluest fringes

Are curling in the sun;

In dusty pods the milkweed

Its hidden silk has spun.

The sedges flaunt their harvest

In every meadow nook;

And asters by the brook-side

Make asters in the brook.

From dewy lanes at morning

The grapes’ sweet odors rise;

At noon the roads all flutter

With yellow butterflies.

By all these lovely tokens

September days are here,

With summer’s best of weather,

And autumn’s best of cheer.

That's Entertainment

Bird Food: $3

Cute Bird House: $8

Shepherd's Hook(to keep squirrels out of the food): $15

Watching a squirrel shimmy up the metal pole to sneak a few bites of birdseed anyway: Priceless.

For April

 Okay, I've got about 5 minutes...which is what I always have to blog, and thus the L-O-N-G gaps between my entries. Oh well..this too shall pass.

For April, a friend of mine who has been relegated to bedrest with her 4th child, due in just 7 weeks...here is a little snapshot of what we are up to.  Hopefully it will lessen your boredom for at least a couple minutes.

Here is our Kate. She's sitting pretty and crawling, too! She just cut a tooth on the bottom(my children always cut bottom teeth first). The dress is from a friend, and I just LOVE the way she fills it out.:) Thanks, Marcie.

 Josh and Kate are becoming friends. It's such an awesome thing to watch 2 little ones get to know one another and start playing together

 Can you tell Ben is 13 & likes gum?  This was a proud bubble moment for him.

And, we went blueberry picking yesterday.  We go every year--the boys love it. I have to make sure they limit the amount of berries they pelt at each other, but otherwise we have fun. The weather was awesome and Kate even found some facinating things to study

 This next one requires an explanation.

Jon has wigs and stage makeup in his closet from another era of our lives when he used to enjoy doing skits. We've done them as a couple for church banquets, with Jon as the cut-up and me as the straight guy. So the boys got ahold of some of Jon's things the other day when it was raining outside and they were bored.  They came downstairs transformed into a happily married couple.  I really laughed hard and then worried they would try and go outside and scare the neighbors.  It was worth a picture though.

Over and out for now.

Brew Happy

iced-tea_~SS43098

Yesterday I made the first(of many)pitchers of iced tea. I love the warm weather and nothing is quite as good as sweet tea! Mint is always a nice addition later on when I can gather handfulls of it from my pot on the front porch, but straight up with lemon is great, too. Yum!
